The dollar traded nervously against the yen and euro on Monday, and stuck cautiously in a narrow range ahead of the impending first debate between US presidential candidates that could determine the currency's near-term direction.

The dollar fell 0.1 percent against the yen to below 100.60. USD/JPY touched a one-month low of 100.100 on Thursday before bouncing back to as high as 101.250 towards the end of last week.

EUR/USD nudged higher to 1.1241 adding to Friday's gains following the slightly upbeat euro zone flash composite purchasing managers' index. The single currency briefly rose to as high as 1.1258 on Thursday.

The Australian fell to 0.7605 on Monday in Asian trade. The Canadian dollar was flat at 1.3172 to the dollar after falling sharply on Friday from a peak around 1.3000.

GBP/USD bounced up to 1.2986, posting a small bounce but slipped to 1.2929 by the time of writing, when it touched a five-week low near 1.2900 on worries over Britain's exit from the European Union.
